Despite Gálvez’s brilliant efforts throughout the war, Congress failed to recognize and honor his accomplishments. For over 230 years, a promise to hang Gálvez’s portrait went unfulfilled. Finally, in 2014, President Barack Obama honored that promise and had the general’s portrait hung in the Capitol.
