Out of all the school subjects, Reading is the one that is binds them all. Whether students are reading directions in Math, reading texts about science or social studies topics, or reading over a written essay, having the ability to read is essential.
There are many different reading strategies that parents and teachers can use to help children at any age develop and refine their comprehension, fluency, and higher-order thinking skills. Depending on the text being read, one or more strategies can be used at the same time.
As we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we can learn about several cultures and their traditions. In the United States, probably the most vibrant and recognized is the Mexican culture, especially in states where Mexico is in closer proximity such as Texas and California.
Just as there is diversity among Hispanic cultures, the month of October is also diverse with different holidays, celebrations and events. But for many sports fans, October really means the start of Major League Baseball’s post-season playoffs. And of course, the World Series.
Studying is an important skill that all students should master. In order for students to retain information, the brain needs to practice it over and over again. When information is re-read and repeated, the brain realizes that the information is something important and thus it stores the data into its long-term memory bank. This allows students to recall facts and material at a later date to demonstrate mastery and to apply it in further applications or tasks.
Every year, Americans around the nation get together to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th through October 15th. The contributions Hispanic Americans have made to the United States are endless and inspiring, and they have had a profound and positive impact on our county.
